What's it about?

The television series follows king Henry VIII of England (1491-1540) - the second Tudor king and one of the most well-known English monarchs in history. His fame comes from two things - his six wives and the English Reformation, which are both explored in the series.

Critics Reception

The Tudors is hugely criticised for its historical inaccuracies and lacking in depth. Almost at the end of the series the article 'What The Tudors has taught us' the author sarcastically lists all the things The Tudors got wrong in the attempt to create an entertaining, Hollywood-looking show. However, in 2008 (when the second season came out) The Hollywood reporter praised the cinematography, outstanding cast and called The Tudors "one of TV's finest dramas".
