What's it about?
Set in 15th century, when Edward IV is on the throne and the War of Roses is tearing England apart. Beautiful and ambitious Elizabeth Woodwille captures the king's heart and becomes queen of England, and together with her husband she fights to secure their line on the throne against Margaret Beaufort and her son son Henry Tudor and the Kingsmaker, lord Warwick and his ambitious daughters Isabel and Anne Neville.

Critics Receptions
The main criticism seems to be a lot of exposition (granted, it is heavily based on one of the most complex times in English history) and some historical inaccuracies, but apart from that the show is praised for high quality acting by relatively unknown actors and the storytelling in general.
Historical Background
Although there is some historical accuracy in things like costumes, English town character (the series was shot mainly in Belgium) and not following the chronology in the second season, the story follows the War of Roses pretty faithfully.
