Critics Reception

Only a snob, a curmudgeon, or someone with necrophiliac loyalty to the 1995 BBC version with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle could fail to enjoy Knidghtley's performance.

The Guardian

Despite the obvious competition with the beloved 1995 version with Colin Firth as mr Darcy, Joe Wright's adaptation of the novel really impressed both the critics and the audiences. The only main criticism seems to be that Macfadyen's performance didn't match up Knightley's energetic Elizabeth.

Historical Background

The film is based on Jane Austen's famous novel Pride & Prejudice and is set in 19th century.
