Hidden Figures, 2016

What's it about?

Set in 1961, it is a true story of three women working for NASA during the USA and USSR race to get the first man to the Moon. It reveals the real impact black women had on the greatest NASA achievements and how the fight for equal rights ufolded both in courtrooms and in the workplace.

Why watch it?

Because it's a great film; if you're interest in NASA's achievements and space discovery; if you are interested in 20th century; for solid representation of racism in 20th century; for a study in activism and a non-violent way of claiming their rights for oppressed minorities; for an easy-going, smooth cinema experience despite the heavy subject matter at times.

Critics Reception

The film raises important issues and questions, but it is often praised not only for that, but also for the actors' outstanding performances and the director's light touch when it comes to dealing with heavy subject matter. The only real criticism is the occasional lack of subtelty of the statements that are constantly reinforced throughout the film - and some of the characters being comical while the heroines stick to their dramatic parts.
