Digging deeper into the past, with Mary, Queen of Scots we now embrace another royal figure from Scotland - Robert the Bruce, the king outlawed by Edward I and excommunicated by Pope.
In his interview for Reuters, Chris Pine, who plays Robert the Bruce, talks about film in general:
“It’s certainly about Scottish independence. But I think ... it’s about love, it’s about relationships, it’s about violence, it’s about the cost of the violence, it’s about man’s will to power and be in power and what one is willing to do to get it.”
The film, premiered at Toronto Film Festival in September, is also said to have full front male nudity & violence - something that the modern audience is becoming more and more accustomed to, especially since Game of Thrones' widespread success.
Outlaw King promises to be a mix of Braveheart, Game of Thrones and proper history (let's hope so at least). From what we can see in the trailer, it's a good replacement for shows Black Sails - so far the only show that managed to balance history, entertainment and incredible character development, while keeping up the production quality and re-mastering Pirates of the Caribbean tale of brave outlaws who defy a great empire and fight for what they believe is right.
